President Kenneth Ilnitski was the Master of Ceremonies for our banquet. The culinary team was led by Comrade Tony Merritt and the delicious meal was enjoyed by all.
The head table consisted of President Ilnitski and his wife Kay, Counsellor Alex Morrison and his wife Elizabeth, 1st Vice Art McDonald and his wife Pat, Branch Sick & Visiting, WW2 Veteran Clyde Wright accompanied by Jean Merritt, Ladies Auxiliary member, WW2 Veteran Borden Sanford with his daughter Jane Lefurgey, Anne Marie (Ladies Auxiliary President) and her husband John Coutreau Lcdr Darren Ashe and his wife Tracy, Cmd. Scott Briand (Lt. (N) who was the guest speaker.
His talk and slide show was about the youth in our movement concerning the Pilgrimage of Remembrance. The evening ended with the presentation of Honours and Awards by the Ladies Auxiliary and our branch Honours and Awards Committee.
Appreciation certificates were presented to: John Atwell, Brenda Frail, Patty MacKenzie,
and Linda and Wayne Isles. A number of year pins were also presented. Two of those pins were 40 years pins presented to Raymond Long and Kenneth Ilnitski.
Lovett Winchester (who was not present due to health reasons) received his 50 year medal.
Comrade Dorothy Rodgers received her Past Presidents medal and Comrades Bev Mosher and Bill Hilden were presented their Past Officers medals.
The following Comrades received the Branch Service Medal: Comrades Tony Merritt, Glen Mugford, Art and Pat McDonald, Bibs Long, Kristina King, Cam Johnstone, Alta and Murray Covert and President Kenneth Ilnitski.
President Ilnitski presented Comrade Murray Covert with the 60th Queens Diamond Jubilee medal.
The last award presented was to Comrade Douglas Moore. The citation was read by Comrade Heather Garner and then the President presented Comrade Moore with the prestigious Meritorious Service Medal. This medal is the highest award that a member of the Royal Canadian Legion can receive. Loraine, Doug’s wife then receive a beautiful bouquet of flowers from him.
A great evening was had by everyone in attendance.
